Matt Lewitski – Athletic Director at Blyth Academy

Matt is an Etobicoke native who grew up playing in the GTHL for the Mississauga Senators AAA hockey club. In high school Matt pursued a track career becoming one of the top 10 fastest runners in Toronto and even beating the great Andre DeGrasse in the 100 metre in the 11th grade. Matt has spent the last 5 years working as a Skills Coach for Varsity Hockey in Brampton, along with coaching the Mississauga Sens AAA at the 2005 & 2011 birth years. Matt is passionate about training young athletes ensuring they are in an inspiring environment that supports their goals and pushes them to be great every day.  We are happy to announce Matt will also assist Nick Rotondi with our U16 and U18 Blyth Prep teams.

Nick Rotondi – President of Wave Hockey & N’Ice Stix Hockey/ Head Coach of Blyth Prep 18U

Nick has been teaching hockey players of all ages around Southern Ontario for over a decade, from young beginners to Elite AAA, OHL, University, Senior AAA and even the National Hockey Leaguers.

Nick’s coaching experience with several teams and organizations across Ontario makes him a well-rounded instructor with vast knowledge and expertise, and as such he continues to provide a highly sought-after, unique approach to hockey development theories. 

Nick is currently President of Wave Sports Inc and is General Manger of Blyth Academy Prep U14-U16-U18, while Head Coaching the U16s & U18’s.  

Nick’s passion is player development in the power skating and puck skills department, with emphasis on spatial awareness and deception!

Jarret Reid – Head Instructor at Wave Hockey

Jarret Reid is our head instructor at Wave Hockey with over 20 years of being an on ice instructor and working with thousands of athletes from the NHL, Jr.A and minor hockey levels.

Jarret brings tons of knowledge and experience to our Blyth program and is able to break down a players skating stride or stickhandling in an elite way. Jarret is First round pick of Sault Greyhounds in 1990 with 3 OHL Championships and 3 Memorial Cup appearances.

With one Memorial Cup win in 1993 and having a 50 goal season in 1992. Jarret holds Sault Greyhound record with 19 goals in 1993 playoffs

Spencer Ridgewell – Blyth Academy/ Wave Hockey Skills Coach and Shooting Coach

Spencer’s ability to connect with minor hockey players is what separates him and other coaches. His energy is contagious and his stick handling and shooting techniques are elite, efficient and translate well into game play. 

Spencer has played 2 World Championships with U19 and 2 World Championships with Men’s Team Canada Floorball (teammates with world famous Pavel Barber).

Spencer worked directly under NHL shooting Coach Tim Turk at Coast to Coast Hockey Academy, and now is the Blyth Academy Skills Coach, along with Skating and Shooting coach at Wave Sports Inc.

Mark Mascioli – Head Coach U13 (2010)

As a native of Hamilton Ontario, Mark quickly emerged as an elite player in his age group. Playing AAA hockey in Hamilton and during the off-season the Guelph Gryphons Prospect Team. By the age of 15 he was playing Junior hockey for the Dundas Blues.

He has been coaching hockey for the past 8 years, from IP programs to AAA level and Prep Hockey. Mark brings a wealth of hockey knowledge and experience along with a dynamic skill set that challenges each player to reach their greatest potential. Mark’s coaching philosophy is quite basic, Mark coaches because he has passion for the game and likes to see others succeed. He strives to create an environment that will encourage our players to learn and develop both on and off the ice.

Mark has his National Coaching Certification for hockey instruction in Skating, Skills, Shooting, Developing Defence and Goaltending.

Gino Porco – Head Coach U15 (2008)

Gino has been coaching athletes of all ages in competitve sports for over a decade including soccer, inline hockey and ice hockey.

Gino has a deep passion for mentoring and developing players and being the type of leader that they can look up to (even though most players are taller than him these days).

All of his teams follow a similar “identity” as he encourages his players to lead by example and be unselfish by putting the team first and above everything. His teams are committed to a common purpose, set of goals, and approach that everyone is held mutually accountable for throughout the season.

He believes that having discipline is key in any competitive sport and hockey is no different; showing respect for players, coaches, referees, spectators and other teams alike, while outworking opponents and always excelling with optimum effort.

Gino’s mantra fuels his players to be “better than their best” and helps them achieve elite success on and off the ice.

Joe Pegg – Head Coach 15U (2008/2007)

Joe started coaching in 1997. Over the years he has helped develop players skills from pre hockey ages to U22. Joe has a passion and love of the game that is contagious and is passed through to the players. He empowers and engages the players while holding them accountable to be better today than they were yesterday. Joe brings out the players potential while pushing them out of their comfort zone to foster growth within themselves and as a team.

Joe’s motto is “Hockey for Life” “Memories for Life”. Hockey is an amazing game, but more important Joe believes it is also a tool to teach life skills and develop the players to respect the game, opponents, referees, coaches, parents, teachers, and themselves. Coaching young men and women that are learning about themselves to push them to strive to not only be better hockey players but better individuals in society within our communities. 

With his never quit attitude. Joe pushes the team to strive to always be competitive and persevere while maintaining a fun and positive environment that encourages all players to want to return to the rink.   ……….HOCKEY FOR LIFE!!!   ………………MEMORIES FOR LIFE!!!

Kyle Allen- Head Coach 16U (2007/2006)

Kyle has been coaching, teaching and developing players in the Golden Horseshoe area for over 12 years. He’s coached a variety of age and skill levels including high school, Elite AAA all the way down to the youngsters in the IP age group.

Kyle’s uses an innovative new school way of connecting and applying technical and tactical development applications to his practices, development skates and off ice film sessions. Kyle is a master at connecting with the players he works with, always getting maximum effort, efficiency and results while keeping the moral and passion at an all-time high on and off the ice. Kyle is also a Skills Coach at Wave Sports Inc.
